Nurse Olga Entoven shares, “The support from Dedicare and the work culture in KEMH make this experience truly exceptional.”
Meet our consultant Olga, a Nurse who has recently completed a three-month placement in the Falkland Islands.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Olga about her rewarding journey working at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) after discovering an opportunity through Dedicare. Here’s what she had to say about her unique experience.
What motivated you to work in the Falkland Islands?
I was drawn to the Falkland Islands for a three-month locum placement. The stunning scenery and the rich local history captivated me, and the remoteness promised a unique adventure.
How would you describe your experience working at KEMH?
My experience at KEMH was nothing short of amazing. The support from Dedicare was exceptional, from organizing my travel and accommodation to having a local coordinator assist me throughout my stay. The work culture here is vastly different from the UK; we operate with minimal hierarchy. The Chief Nursing Officer is approachable, and I had the pleasure of socializing with a fantastic group of doctors, surgeons, and anaesthetists who share a love for adventure.
What sets KEMH apart from other healthcare environments?
The remoteness and limited resources truly make you think outside the box. You feel valued as a healthcare professional, rather than just a number in a large system. The respect you receive and the emphasis on teamwork create an incredible working atmosphere. The staffing levels and learning opportunities at KEMH are something that every healthcare professional should experience.
Would you recommend Dedicare to others looking for similar opportunities?
Absolutely! I highly encourage all healthcare professionals—whether nurses, doctors, or allied health professionals—to join Dedicare. The experience in the Falklands is something you won’t find anywhere else.
